Texas · DPS knowledge tests
40 free questions across 8 endorsements, 5 in each section. CDL Full Access is $19/month and opens the other 24 starter questions, for every endorsement, not $10 each. Air brakes, combination, hazmat, tank, doubles, passenger, and school bus are included with general knowledge.
These are the agency’s rules and announcements, not a promise about how anyone scores on test day. Read the current pages before you go. Fees change. DPS form DL-60A has listed a $25 commercial learner permit application fee and a $97 fee when you return for the skills test and issuance. Confirm both amounts.
Texas Administrative Code §16.27 says a CDL written exam requires correct answers on 80% or more of the questions. Federal rules set the same 80% floor for knowledge tests in 49 CFR 383.135. The sets on this site use that line. They are not the DPS forms, and this site does not publish a pass rate.
DPS tells applicants to take knowledge exams in this order: Texas Commercial Rules, General Knowledge, Combination if you want Class A, Air Brakes if they apply, then endorsements. Texas Commercial Rules is its own test. This starter bank does not cover that section yet.
DPS announced that beginning June 1, 2026, CDL and commercial learner permit knowledge exams are given in English only. Interpreters are not allowed. The skills test was already in English. Study the handbook in the language you will test in.
After you pass the knowledge tests, DPS issues a commercial learner permit. Federal rules and the DPS FAQ require you to hold that permit 14 days before the skills test. The permit is for practice with a qualified CDL holder beside you. It is not the license, and DPS says it is not valid without your base Texas driver license.
Passing the hazmat knowledge test does not print the endorsement by itself. DPS does not issue a Texas CDL with a hazardous materials endorsement until TSA finishes the security threat assessment. A tank of placarded hazmat also points to the tank endorsement. Together those are often shown as X.
Entry-level driver training applies to a first-time Class A or B, to some upgrades, and to a first-time passenger, school bus, or hazmat endorsement. DPS checks the Training Provider Registry. One Pass Prep is not on that registry. This subscription is not an ELDT course and it does not replace the skills test.
One Pass Prep is not affiliated with the Texas Department of Public Safety or FMCSA. Air-brake restriction codes, including L for no air brakes, are in the Texas handbook. Confirm the code that matches the truck you test in.
5 free questions in each endorsement. Answers stay hidden until you submit. The line on these sets is 80%, which is the written-test line in 49 CFR 383.135 and in Texas CDL exams. A score here is not a pass rate.
The questions are original. They are written for the same topics the national manuals cover, which Texas uses. They are not DPS items. Mixed free practice pulls two free questions from each endorsement.
CDL subscription
CDL Full Access is $19/month flat. That price includes every CDL knowledge endorsement in this product: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination, HazMat, Tanker, Doubles/Triples, Passenger, and School Bus. It is not $10 per endorsement. Electrician exams stay on their own price. Cancel anytime.
The free section tests stay on the site. This subscription opens the rest of the starter bank for every endorsement listed above. It is saved in this browser for the current month. There is no email account.
This browser keeps one subscription at a time. Saving CDL Full Access replaces an electrician pass already stored here, and the reverse. It does not add CDL onto the electrician price.
One Pass Prep is not affiliated with FMCSA, the Texas Department of Public Safety, or any state driver-license agency. It is not an ELDT provider and it is not listed on the Training Provider Registry.
