160 free questions across 8 endorsements, 20 in each section. CDL Full Access is $19/month and opens the other 1640 questions, for every endorsement, not $10 each. Air brakes, combination, hazmat, tank, doubles, passenger, and school bus are included with general knowledge.
These are the DMV knowledge-exam, permit, and classification pages, plus the Virginia Commercial Driver’s Manual, not a promise about how anyone scores. You apply in person at a customer service center. DMV lists the commercial learner’s permit at $3. Confirm the amount. This site does not issue the permit.
DMV says every class takes the general knowledge exam, and you need at least 80% of those questions correct. The other knowledge exams follow the class and the endorsements. Hazmat is given only in English. The other knowledge exams are offered in several languages, on a computer. You may take the knowledge exams only once each business day. A passed result stays valid for one year. After that year you test again before the permit or the license. The chart also sends Class A, B, and C applicants to the Virginia Supplement. This bank does not cover that supplement. Federal rules set an 80% floor on each knowledge test in 49 CFR 383.135. The sets here use that line. They are not DMV forms, and this site does not publish a pass rate.
A first CDL starts with a commercial learner’s permit. You pass general knowledge and the other knowledge exams for the vehicles you want, including air brakes if the truck has them. The Virginia supplement says the permit is valid for one year. You hold it at least 14 days before the skills test, and only with a driver who is licensed for that vehicle. DMV’s eligibility page also lists a driver who already held a CDL. Read that page before you book, because the holding rule is not one sentence. Entry-level driver training comes before the hazmat knowledge exam and before road skills for a first Class A or B. One Pass Prep is not on the Training Provider Registry. This subscription is not an ELDT course and it does not replace the skills test.
The knowledge-exam chart still says that skipping the air-brake exam puts a K restriction on the license. The classifications page and Code of Virginia §46.2-341.16 say a license issued on or after July 1, 2014 uses L when you do not pass the air-brake knowledge test or you take the skills test in a vehicle without air brakes, and Z when the skills test is in a vehicle with air-over-hydraulic brakes. On those pages K means you may not drive a commercial vehicle outside Virginia. That is also the restriction DMV describes for a driver under 21. Confirm the letter on the document.
DMV says you need a valid Virginia driver license that is not suspended or revoked, the knowledge exams for the class and endorsements, a vision screening, and a properly registered vehicle of the type you want on the license. You also have to read and speak English well enough for signs, official questions, and the entries on reports. Under 21, the license does not cover driving across state lines, hazardous materials, or interstate freight. The Commercial Driver’s Manual lists the skills test as the vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control, and the on-road test. This subscription does not replace that test.

20 free questions in each endorsement. Answers stay hidden until you submit. The line on these sets is 80%, which is the written-test line in 49 CFR 383.135. A score here is not a pass rate. The counts on each card are the free set and the original questions in that section.
