North Carolina · NCDMV knowledge tests
160 free questions across 8 endorsements, 20 in each section. CDL Full Access is $19/month and opens the other 280 starter questions, for every endorsement, not $10 each. Air brakes, combination, hazmat, tank, doubles, passenger, and school bus are included with general knowledge.
These are the NCDMV commercial license page and the North Carolina Commercial Driver License Manual, not a promise about how anyone scores. The permit is mailed. NCDMV says it arrives within 20 business days, and a temporary driving certificate covers the gap. The same timing applies to the license after you pass the skills test. This site does not issue either document.
The manual says each knowledge test requires 80% of the questions answered correctly. You do not need an appointment for the knowledge tests. Everyone takes general knowledge, plus passenger, air brakes, combination, hazardous materials, tank, doubles and triples, or school bus as the license requires. Hazmat still needs a TSA background check. The school bus knowledge test is given by the School Bus and Traffic Safety Section, not as a walk-up test at every office. The manual lists that section at 919-715-7000. One attempt is allowed on each knowledge test per day. After three failed tries at general knowledge, another application fee buys three more. The manual says scores stay valid 90 days in NCDMV files. The sets on this site use the 80% line. They are not NCDMV forms, and this site does not publish a pass rate.
NCDMV says you pass the vision, traffic-sign, and CDL knowledge tests, then the commercial learner permit is issued. It is valid for 180 days and can be renewed once, for another 180 days. You hold it at least 14 days before the skills test. The manual says the same 14 days, and that a permit is issued after the knowledge test and a vision test.
NCDMV says the permit arrives within 20 business days, and a temporary driving certificate covers that gap. The CDL is mailed on the same schedule after you pass the skills test. That certificate is a state document. A page on this site is not a permit, and a score here is not the knowledge-test result NCDMV keeps on file.
After the 14 days, NCDMV says you complete entry-level driver training with a school on the federal Training Provider Registry, then schedule the skills test. NCDMV lists 919-715-7000 for that appointment. You bring your own commercial vehicle, representative of the license, plus your valid driver license and the unexpired permit. The manual lists the skills test as vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving. If you want to drive a truck with air brakes, you pass the written air-brake test and the skills test in an air-brake vehicle. One Pass Prep is not on the Training Provider Registry. This subscription is not that course and it does not replace the skills test.
One Pass Prep is not affiliated with the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles or FMCSA. This site does not issue a North Carolina CLP or CDL.
20 free questions in each endorsement. Answers stay hidden until you submit. The line on these sets is 80%, which is the written-test line in 49 CFR 383.135. A score here is not a pass rate. The counts on each card are the free set and the original questions in that section.

The questions are original. They are written for the same topics the national manuals cover, which North Carolina uses. They are not NCDMV items. Mixed free practice pulls two free questions from each endorsement. All CDL states.
