160 free questions across 8 endorsements, 20 in each section. CDL Full Access is $19/month and opens the other 1640 questions, for every endorsement, not $10 each. Air brakes, combination, hazmat, tank, doubles, passenger, and school bus are included with general knowledge.
These are the Motor Vehicle Commission steps for a commercial license, the knowledge-test page, and the CDL manual, not a promise about how anyone scores. You need a New Jersey Class D driver license. MVC lists the examination test receipt at $125 and says that fee is nonrefundable. Confirm the amount before you pay. This site does not issue the permit.
MVC says you make an appointment, bring your 6 Points of ID, and pay for an examination test receipt before the knowledge tests. You name the vehicle and the endorsements so the receipt covers the right tests. Pass the tests and the receipt is validated at a licensing center. That receipt is not a learner permit. MVC says the scores stay valid for 360 days. You are a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident, at least 18, and you hold a New Jersey basic driver license.
MVC says the knowledge test is a 50-question general test plus a separate test for each endorsement, and you need at least 80% of the questions correct. Fail a knowledge test and you wait seven days. You may keep trying. If you have not passed after 180 days, you renew the test receipt. The sets on this site use that 80% line. They are not MVC forms, and this site does not publish a pass rate.
After the tests you present the validated receipt and the CDL Holder Self-Certification. When the category requires it, a medical examiner’s certificate has to be on file with the National Registry. MVC issues a digital CLP, not a paper permit. It is valid for 180 days and it has to be with your New Jersey driver license when you drive a commercial vehicle. Unless the wait is waived, you hold the CLP at least 14 days before the skills test, with another CDL holder beside you, and you need an appointment. Hazmat entry-level driver training comes before the hazmat knowledge test. A first Class A or B, an upgrade, and a first passenger, school bus, or hazmat endorsement still need a provider on the Training Provider Registry before the skills test. One Pass Prep is not on that registry. This subscription is not an ELDT course and it does not replace the skills test.
MVC lists a no-passenger restriction on a CLP that has a passenger endorsement, and a no-cargo restriction on a CLP that has a tank endorsement. An air-brake restriction is L. Under 21, the license is intrastate only, and MVC says those drivers do not receive hazmat or passenger. Beginning September 1, 2026, a passenger endorsement needs a fingerprint receipt or completed results when the CLP is issued. The CDL manual lists the skills test as the vehicle inspection, basic control, and the road. A skills test in a vehicle with an automatic transmission can add an E restriction. Confirm the letter on the license. The four-year CDL page lists $42 and $2 for each endorsement, with a first CDL prorated to the basic license. Confirm those amounts.
One Pass Prep is not affiliated with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission or FMCSA. This site does not issue a New Jersey CLP or CDL.
20 free questions in each endorsement. Answers stay hidden until you submit. The line on these sets is 80%, which is the written-test line in 49 CFR 383.135. A score here is not a pass rate. The counts on each card are the free set and the original questions in that section.
