Illinois · Secretary of State knowledge tests
160 free questions across 8 endorsements, 20 in each section. CDL Full Access is $19/month and opens the other 280 starter questions, for every endorsement, not $10 each. Air brakes, combination, hazmat, tank, doubles, passenger, and school bus are included with general knowledge.
These are the Secretary of State CDL page and the Illinois CDL Study Guide, not a promise about how anyone scores. You need an Illinois base license that stays valid for the whole one-year CLP. If that base license expires sooner, renew it first. This site does not issue the permit.
The study guide says every applicant passes the general (core) knowledge test at 80% or more. That exam is 30 questions, and written scores are valid for up to one year. It also lists combination at 20 questions for Class A, air brakes at 25, passenger at 20, tank at 20, school bus at 20, hazmat at 30, and doubles and triples at 20. Illinois also gives a charter-bus (C) test of 20 questions. This starter bank does not cover charter bus. Federal rules set the same 80% floor in 49 CFR 383.135. The sets here use that line. They are not Secretary of State forms, and this site does not publish a pass rate.
After the written tests, a temporary CLP is issued and the permanent card is mailed. The CLP is valid for one year from the temporary card. You hold the temporary or permanent CLP at least 14 days before skills and drive testing. You may schedule a date that falls after those 14 days. A corrected CLP, after you add or remove an endorsement or restriction, starts a new 14-day wait. Only the tank (N), passenger (P), and school bus (S) endorsements are allowed on the CLP.
The Secretary of State says H and X are not allowed on a CLP. The study guide says you need a TSA approval letter before the hazmat knowledge test. A tank of placarded hazmat is the combination drivers often see as X. This site does not run that background check.
Skills testing is a pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving, in a representative vehicle. Pass one part and fail the next, and you do not retake the part you passed. A failed pre-trip is taken again in full. No video or recording device is allowed. Fail the same CDL test three times and the study guide says you wait 30 days from that third failure. Six failures of that test are a 90-day wait. Nine are a one-year wait from the last failure. The wait applies only to the test you failed. That is a scheduling rule, not a pass rate. Entry-level driver training is a separate federal requirement. One Pass Prep is not on the Training Provider Registry and does not replace the skills test.
One Pass Prep is not affiliated with the Illinois Secretary of State or FMCSA. This site does not issue an Illinois CLP or CDL.
20 free questions in each endorsement. Answers stay hidden until you submit. The line on these sets is 80%, which is the written-test line in 49 CFR 383.135. A score here is not a pass rate. The counts on each card are the free set and the original questions in that section.

The questions are original. They are written for the same topics the national manuals cover, which Illinois uses. They are not Secretary of State items. Mixed free practice pulls two free questions from each endorsement. All CDL states.
